This is the kind of shot I just drooool for. Even if this dragonfly was too old to move anymore, there's something about having captured the image while the spark of life was in him (or her?) that just makes it a hundred times better than close-ups of insects on pins. ;)

Great focus and DOF! It reminds me of a similar shot that I have: [link] I thought that it might have been an Eastern Pondhawk, but looking at yours, I'm wondering if I misidentified it. That's always a possibility!

By the way, don't you love it when they hold still for you?? :)

I have always called them Darners. But after some looking at Google, I think you may be right: Eastern Pondhawk or Green Clearwing (I've seen both common names attached to that scientific name). Thank you!! And a nice shot of yours, too. I love dragonflies - and it's wonderful when they sit still!
